I live in a small town in a small county about 50 miles north of NYC. On May 20th we, as well as most other citizens in NYS will get to "vote" on our school budgets and boards of "education."
Amidst all the unbelievable corruption that exists within our government schools, New York's Green New Deal has created some of the most expensive and inefficient mandates in the USA, possibly the world!
Here's an example- geothermal heating- that has cost our taxpayers tens of millions of dollars thus far with no end in sight. About 20 years ago, some Green genius came up with the idea that our school district should become a climate leader and be the first institution in this part of NY to embrace Green technology. We would show the rest of the state how it's done by golly! What a sick joke it all turned out to be as we soon discovered.
First of all, if you wanted to pick the worst possible heating system for our school buildings, you would be hard pressed to find anything worse than geothermal.
The land is rock and ledge where 50 wells have to be dug as well as all the somewhat delicate piping. Our temperature range goes from below zero to over 100 degrees which is totally unsuitable for this type of system. Even the lowliest local plumber could have told the school overlords that this would never work but they refused to listen. Most likely because they were getting lucrative kickbacks from the vendors who supplied and installed the systems.
So here we are, 20 years later and there's a $14 million bond we will vote on that mainly covers repairs and installation of more geothermal in another building. Beside being inefficient and expensive the system doesn't provide enough heat in the dead of winter and the kids are always complaining that they're cold!

Geothermal *can* work. It's inexpensive and efficient in...Iceland. And other lands atop magma plumes that make the ground above warm to the touch in the middle of winter. The US and Canada have areas with hot springs that can make use of geothermal. Not sure if NY has any. I know the Rocky Mountains are filled with them, both US and Canadian. As are lands in the Pacific Northwest into Canada. The Ozarks. Other areas I'm not listing.
But...there's the whole environmentally friendly development of production in very pristine locations thing. And the limitations on transmission of energy from them, the capacity (power lines, pipes) become the chokepoint that doesn't allow for economical benefit to flow from producer to consumer.
Works great in some situations, but those are constrained by nature herself. Not everywhere can be Iceland. And we ought not pretend otherwise. A man has to know his limitations.
Our taxpayer group did a cost/benefit analysis of geothermal vs. high efficiency boilers that use oil or propane gas. (we do not have natural gas).
In every instance the high efficiency boilers were cheaper to install, maintain and provide heat and hot water. The geothermal scam was just another rip off of the tax slaves.
Are there areas of the state, like the Adirondacks, that have hot springs? If there are then I imagine they're remote and not conducive to development or close enough to a population center to make energy production and transmission practical.
The number one tool of mind control is distraction. You fell for their geothermal distractions.
Quit them. Make it happen. Homeschool by forming cooperatives if you have to, but never look back on the losers trying to dominate you and your families.
