This is why we will win

On assignment for the Sunday Times Magazine one night in Eugene, Oregon, I was standing at my car with a young evangelical woman, telling her about my early American family.  They had arrived on the John and Mary in 1630, “praying and expounding the world of God the whole way,” a phrase I loved to repeat. But rather than laughing, she looked at me and said, “Wow. Wow, you have a powerful religious heritage.”

I had not heard the phrase, ‘religious heritage’ before, and was struck, pondering its meaning.

But in fact, everyone in America does have just that, it is an imprint, the original imprint of the United States, the First Imprint, if you like. You can argue with me about aboriginals but at the Revolution, the density of the Iroquois stood at one Indian per 25,000 acres and like all tribes, they were war-like in their culture’s form and purpose. In fact they were much like the tribes of Europe and Asia fighting over territory, the world that the Puritans were coming to escape, to build something unmatched in the history of the world, equality of the individual under God. The Great Commission.

From 1640 to 1790, population growth in New England was largely internal. For 200 years, they interbred and grew from 20,000 to 1,000,000 people, generation by generation carrying this dream, a block of DNA so strong, so intense, it bred to fixation, as geneticists call it. Time Magazine named it the God gene. The God gene has always existed, but in that 200 years, it coalesced as intensity of selection on a beneficial allele and it defines the country still.

Both my parents’ first ancestors arrived in the River Colony in the 1630’s, my mother’s Thomas Hooker, a renegade prelate from the Bay colony. A few years later, Phelpses, father, four sons, five wives, “hung on their cooking pot, cooked their homely meals and went down to the founding of Windsor, Connecticut”. The Phelpses married into Jonathan Edwards family and were therefore, front and center at the First Great Awakening and the subsequent Revolution as commissaries of the Revolutionary Army. They were also active participants in the Second and the Third. All three Awakenings presaged a massive shift in American culture, the first resulted in the Revolution, the Second, the Civil War and the Third, the establishment of the social safety net. Many have argued that we are in the midst of the Fourth Great Awakening – awakenings occur over several decades -  which will re-establish the idea of America – that all men are free, sacred beings, embedded in Christ consciousness, or in-spirited, walking with Spirit, defined once again for a new century. But this time, the Awakening is world-wide. It is only the so-called intelligentsia that does not know this.

I was, at that time of my encounter in Eugene, a thorough-going modernist, with a secret prayer life. I’d taught myself the Buddhist meditation of Anapanasati, the full awareness of breathing, that allowed, after years of struggle, words to surface in perfect paragraphs, but I found Buddhism finally to be both empty and passive. Passive is not Christian. In fact, you can argue that Christianity is the only active faith (that isn’t murderous) and so it was for my great-great-great-great grandfather, during the Second Great Awakening, Oliver Phelps who on a cliff overlooking his canal works at Lockport on the Erie canal was visited by an Archangel. I know this because on the cover of his funeral program, the etching of the cowering man and the massive angel makes his experience very freaking real.

Oliver described himself as “a man of the people”. His father’s life had ended in debtor’s prison, so he started work at ten, ran the first Pony Express through the Catskills at 15, and after his feat on the Erie and his revelation, he became a whirlwind. Invited to Canada to dig the first deep cut on the Welland Canal by William Hamilton Merrit, the two men then bent themselves to the Underground Railroad. The canal works were the ‘underground’ and fugitives were smuggled through the border that way. His wife and 17 children would hide runaways in tunnels under their house. Oliver, who built schools and churches all thru the region, donated land for the fugitives and employed them in his various enterprises. His black housekeeper was their liaison with Harriet Tubman. It was a family and village-wide enterprise, because of the tunnels and the men (mostly Irish) that dug the tunnels. It was dangerous and very, very, very unfashionable.

Unless you were Christian.

And here is the nub of the matter. While Oliver, before his revelatory experience, was a busy successful man who dragged himself up from a bankrupt family, afterwards he became titanic. Every moment of every day was bent to the service of others, and as a result he did things that would seem out of reach to the average, say, Buddhist, or ‘creator’ on the internet or in Hollywood.

And that, that, is what the Marxists, the infinitely destructive George Soros, Bill Gates, Nazi-boy Klaus, the CCP fear most. That. That sudden expansion of the human into something beyond their ken. The fact that the more you attune yourself to God, in sharp contrast to Marxist propaganda, the bigger you become, the more you become, you can create greatness, you can astonish yourself. This is first of all, a deeply personal experience, that first encounter, that recognition that the other world is not only present but present, and profoundly, intimately, aware of you.  And then, you become aware that everyone around you, every single individual, is as sacred as you are.

This is not the vision of a hackable animal controlled by some ghastly AI-advised Central Committee of truly dreadful people. Many of us have slowly, hesitatingly, come to accept that some of our leaders are pedophiles, some of those even practice Satanism, in order, preposterous as it sounds, to increase their power. We know that eight million children go missing every year, and that these children vanish into the sex-slave trade. I know this seems an extreme statement, but the evidence is everywhere. I could fill pages with citations. Here is Alex Thomson, one of the most serious people on earth, who spent 13 years in the UK’s GCHQ, Britain’s intelligence, security and cyber agency, detailing the men who have been systematically raping small children while running the world. It’s called the RAINS list

I know the world today, faced head on, seems dark. Too dark. Better to sail or golf or visit Tuscany. Better to luxuriate in as much comfort and luxury as you can afford. But is that all you want to be? Comfortable?  Do you think life was easier in 1630? In 1830? In the 1890’s when the social gospel was birthed? Do you want to just…sit this one out?  You will not love yourself for that. People far less advantaged that we are were infused by the spirit, conquered evil and created a country the entire world wants to live in or destroy. The hackable meatsuits that run us, do not have access to the power and inspiration we do. It is why all their works speak of death, of violence, and why our governments fail at everything they undertake, that their every action, war, pandemic, inflation, green government brings despair and financial ruin.

It is why our leaders all look like death, what they think, what they do, shows in their grotesque faces and bodies. George Soros is full-on demonic. Biden is a ghoul walking. Bill Gates is repellent. And this is what’s happened to women.
