Best wishes. Have new laptop, and have yet to get back control of My Stuff - after two months. Granted, I avoid the thing as much as possible. A new computer, with all the "features" is a battle of will power. "They" want full access and I want "Them" to just provide the software. Is that too much to demand??
An interesting and more accurate assesment of the crux points, the successes, and the failures of WWII is currently flourishing as is a revaluation of the Cold War. And, rather manfully (I know, I know, it is a despised genre) I'll declare that the world of historical fiction has become much stronger.
Thoughtful novelists of the Post-War years have disappeared, but then so has that culture. The great fiction of the entre-deux-guerres will never be rivalled.
Modern biographers lionize celebrities or politicians who have degraded human life with their every contact. Should this period or epoch end and the ability to read, write, and think survive, some subjects of greatness might arise. But, in the turbidity of current sewage it is hard to identify those who are really doing hero's work. Perhaps it'll be the little people like us. We are often wrong or wrong headed but generally are able to recognize the evil and nonsensical when we see it. And we dare to speak aloud that which we see or note in print or online.
Yeah, I've got a gay half-brother and know many a gay, but I have no special interest in their "culture." The great tastemakers that existed therein must have been extinguished with the early days of AIDS, more's the pity.
Generally contemporary Gay prose and theater is bludgeon and trowel work. While Noel Cowards were never thick on the ground there did exist a vast world of gay sophisticaton, acuity of observation, and aesthetic fineness (I have been re-reading Allan Bloom). No more.
I dread having modern queer shit shoved down my throat for the month. I hate having it brought into grammar schools. Trans stuff? Guess.
I have an unprincipled area of my life. I guess I have many, but one is channeled through an ancient kindle which cannot be updated. But, I can download library books upon it and they never expire but become mine own. I live far away now but still bleed their system.
Justification? I was taxed to death in my former PNW city by both the city and the county. I was villified for my race, gender, property owning, and much else. So, now I do that which I never thought possible: I steal from the library when I retain those kindle books.

New gear/very stressful!
Sending strength.
Larry,
I won't fault you but is there actually anything in a contemporary library WORTH stealing?

Brilliant
Ours is full of the latest novels all of which must have gay folk in the mix or they won't get published.
