John Perkins, author of Confessions of an Economic Hitman, corroborates this viewpoint. The sad fact is that many of us get sucked into it just to keep a roof over our heads.

Two things everyone knows are Gospel truth today "Orange man bad" and "lobotomies bad". Yet almost no one alive today has experience with people who've had lobotomies. I have.
A good case can be made for a lobotomy in carefully selected circumstances. Lobotomies do NOT turn people into "vegetables". They markedly dampen all emotions, leaving the intellect intact. If a person is overwhelmed by terrible emotion, one can be life-saving. Take the case of the young woman recently killed in Europe because she suffered emotionally from having been raped. Here's a tip: euthanasia is permanent. She might have been able to live a reasonably good life with a lobotomy. She might not. But I think it would have been reasonable to at least try before deciding to kill her.
I think it is dangerous to promote lobotomy, whatever form it takes. Because it's all about "taking a piece out of your brain", right? How could this be a "good thing", unless it's a cancerous mass (and even then...)? Our brain is a perfect organ as it is. Moreover, historically, the good doctors who promoted lobotomy admitted themselves that they did NOT know why it could work or give the expected results (which were most often to "correct" the too disturbing person). The same goes for electroshocks. These procedure have always been a dangerous "guess-work" at the expense of the patient at their mercy.
When I was young and in training I worked with some then-old men who were from the lobotomy era. Before chlorpromazine. They cared about the horrors of uncontrolled mental illness for which there were no effective medications.
We would not do now what they did then. But we have drugs they didn’t.
I think your colleague got Bill Cosby wrong. He was an enemy of the new world ODOR, so they punished him for doing things that they do that he doesn't. It's unfortunate that you besmirch his name based on testimony from our mutual enemies.
