She doesn't understand the Muslim invasion, and thought it was a bad move for our nearby city to be associated with Muslim hate (I will NOT call it "Islamophobia," because that word means "a fear of Muslims"; this action was not born out of fear). But for 2 weeks leading up to the city council vote, the local media was broadcasting stories of how the Muslims were providing free medical services in another nearby city. An obvious attempt at trying to say, "All Muslims are good people."
One of my nieces turns away when I talk about how Muslim communities turn into no-go zones for law enforcement purposes. She hasn't called me Islamophobic yet, but I know she may come close to doing that soon. Like I said: I don't fear Muslims, but I will protect my way of life from their future plans.
So I have to experience family members from both ends of my life that are opposing my views on this -- both the older generation and the younger generation. I don't want any of them to be forced to experience the end game.

Mr. Kunstler-----you article yesterday was excellent, as usual. You mention the nations of Western Civ need to rise up. Not sure if there are any left besides the U.S. and only about 30-40% of our current population would be willing to proudly claim they are actually part of Western Civ. I am sure there are millions of East and West European people who identify as members of Western Civ but not many European countries leaders would claim that. Maybe Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and maybe Poland would be on our side but......if the US was attacked today, none of the major NATO Euro countries would support us. Like after 9/11 they would feel sorry for us but if we decided to retaliate, they would do everything in their power to denigrate our reaction.

One of the “features” of early America/Canada that demonstrated the importance of virtuous lives was “swift justice” for those who crossed the lines. Justice was largely swift and public. Children LEARNED by observing in combination with biblical and family education about right, wrong, and consequences. Feelings were not discussed nor considered.
There were strong incentives to live a good, hardy, strong God based life because the alternative was often swift and grim. The wild-west was a hard test that many people failed. They either were tough, resilient, resolute and independent, or they became victims of others who were ready to steal what they had. These lessons created a tough, gnarly and resilient culture that birthed the America and Canada that became the envy of the world. The survivors were creative, hardy, driven, and most often people of God-fearing faith.
We now are countries filled to the brim with criminals of all types—sociopaths and hooligans run rampant amongst us, completely fearless as they take over our city streets.
And our legal system is a feminized labyrinthian structure with spineless invisible penalties (if any at all) that have no functional deterrent impact on the population at large; no real publicly viewed accountability at all. And of course, it is clear that the powerful are rarely held accountable for their lurid and obvious abuses of the authority they have gained.
So, how are most of life’s important lessons learned? They mostly are not. We don’t even see gangs of convicts picking up trash along our roads anymore. Politicians NEVER go to jail and are not publicly humiliated. Penalties for breaking the social contract and boundaries that keep us civil…..are nearly entirely invisible, and thus they do not exist.
Hard times are coming once again, and there is no solution other than the “ugly” one…….one of deterrence….or else…….

If "both sides of (your) family arrived from England, one in 1630 in the Winthrop Fleet, and in 1632 on the Griffin," then I would say it is important to acknowledge that the people arriving at that time in New England, in addition to being Anglo-Saxons, were also Puritans of the Calvinist tradition. That Protestant background may have had more to do with the type of moral upbringing and industrious ethic that you describe, and which still inhabit much of the American culture.

Corrin----a part of my ancestors came to America at this time as well and settled in the same area but.....they were Quakers. Another part of my family landed at Philly in 1728 and they were what they would call today, Fundamentalist Christians escaping the constant religious issues in Switzerland and southwestern Germany-----I am not sure what they called Mennonites back then but.....that is what they were after their landed.
If they were Quakers, they probably came to the country a little bit later because the name wasn’t even used until 1650 but they were also a variety of Protestant so let’s not forget to put the P in WASP!
